In early November of 2024, the Asian Student Association hosted another extremely successful fundraiser, raising 1800 dollars, surpassing expectations and beating their previous record from the year before. With large crowds surrounding the table, the vibrant energy of the school community was notably present. Pre-order options for certain items were booked entirely, and by the end of the event, almost all items had been sold out.
With the dedication, contributions, and remarkable efforts of each member of the ASA, the Asian Student Association was able to raise over $1800 from their fundraising event, earning with their efforts, for the second time, the accomplishment of raising the most significant amount of money from a single bake sale at Portledge. Yet, none of this could have been possible without the support and hard work of the dedicated members, many of whom spent weeks preparing to ensure that every detail was perfect.
One of the aspects of the ASA fundraiser that made it extremely successful was the club’s unique decision to raise money through an Asian food sale rather than a typical bake sale. By providing a variety of Asian foods and treats, the club was able to contribute its funds to a good cause and display and share some of Asian culture with the rest of the community.
When their efforts finally paid off, it was safe to say that every ASA member was filled with a deep sense of joy and pride. The night after the successful fundraiser, ASA member Aidan Drummond proudly stated in the club group chat,
“Hello fellow ASA members! I wanted to speak and say how grateful I am for all of you😊☺️🙏🏾! We all push each other to live life to the absolute fullest! Rock on 🤘 guys😀!”
Noah Daher added to the comment, replying, “Go, team!”
Previously, in January of 2024, the Asian Student Association organized a similar, successful fundraiser event to support a non-profit organization called Apex for Youth. During several bi-weekly meetings throughout the school year, members of the Asian Student Association researched multiple non-profit organizations. Eventually, they unanimously decided they wanted to support Apex for Youth, a non-profit organization in New York City that supports underprivileged Asian Americans. Director Jennifer Li stated that the organization “serves Asian American youth from low-income and immigrant households to help them obtain enrichment, mentoring, college access, scholarships, and many other opportunities.”
This year, however, the club collectively decided to give back to local communities in need. Committed members of the Asian Student Association decided to give back to their community by volunteering at the Mary Brennan Inn. This community resource serves 1,000 meals a day. With the help of Shainil Shah, who coordinated with the soup kitchen, club members could participate in the community service trip. That day, the Asian Student Association baked over 700+ cookies for guests at the Mary Brennan Inn.
