Boys Varsity Cross Country

Nia Green

The Portledge Boys Varsity Cross Country team overcame immense obstacles and had a season of true triumph. Historically, this team has never obtained a PSAA championship;  however, they came the closest to victory this year. In the first meet, the boys showed off their skills from the four weeks of preseason training, and sampled a bit of their competition – their number one rival being Stony Brook School.  Portledge Athletic Director, Amy Mulligan noticed, “This year's boys cross country team was tenacious in the way they ran.  The word ‘quit’ was not in any of their vocabulary, even as it grew colder, making it harder to run.  This team showed up for each other and it showed on the course.”

New student Hugo Hyatt ’27 motivated the rest of his team to move higher up in the rankings each meet. His motivation and dedication showed as it led runners Zachary Stennett’ 27 and Damiano Petruccelli  ‘26 to beat notable forces on Stony Brook’s team. As shown, this team's commitment to the craft and working together led them to huge success and allowed them a second-place victory in the league. They will be ready to compete again at the end of next summer and are looking forward to that first PSAA win.
