Portledge Girls Varsity Volleyball

Olivia Palatnik and Ava Calleo

The Portledge Girls Varsity Volleyball team began the season with a 3-0 sweep against Heschel School. Through victories and defeats, the team managed to work together and push their limits, improving each practice. Ultimately, the team finished the season with a record of 7 wins. Seniors Olivia Palatnik, Mia Schidlovsky, Joie Jean-Paul, Dani Wachtel, and Ava Chan helped lead the team by displaying hard work and staying motivated. Their work was truly on display during Senior Night, which was also the final game, held in the Chen Center.  During the PSAA Semifinals, the Portledge girls team faced their biggest opponent – the Stony Brook School.  Although the Portledge girls did not secure the win, they persevered, ending the sets with only a few points difference.

The team had a total of sixteen players, and two managers, Ava Calleo and Remy Yin. They attended games, filled out score sheets and libero sheets, and kept track of the scoreboard. Head Coach Christy Herring and Assistant Coach Allison Callahan worked together to grow the team and bring out the best in each player. Eighth grade libero Jackie Doyle was truly a key player for the team, making sure every hard hit ended with a perfect pass. The growth seen by the Girls Varsity Volleyball team throughout this season was a remarkable testament to the amazing players this team has to offer.
