Mr. Hills: Coach of All-American Athletes

Remy Terranova

As many already know, Mr. Hills has greatly impacted Portledge School by being a fantastic teacher, mentor, and coach. One of the many impactful contributions he has made during his many years at Portledge is coaching the Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team. Through this role, he has helped countless students grow not only as athletes, but also as individuals. The Portledge Lacrosse program has been so strong that it has produced 8 All-American Lacrosse players, 7 of whom Hills coached. To be selected as an All-American, you must be an exceptional high school lacrosse player. Selected athletes attend an elite showcase event that highlights top talent and significantly increases their visibility to college coaches during the recruitment process. These players all went above and beyond and attended great colleges to pursue their academic and athletic goals. Two of them went to play for Hamilton College, and others went to Roanoke College, Yale University, West Point Academy, Hobart and William Smith College, and Ohio Wesleyan University. In our conversation about these outstanding players and students, Mr. Hills stated, “Each of these young men had a tremendous impact on the development of lacrosse at Portledge, and coaching them helped me learn how individual and team success is based on hard work, dedication, and perseverance.” Overall, Mr. Hills remains the core foundation of Portledge athletics, especially the Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse program, as he has helped many athletes achieve incredible accomplishments through his coaching.
