Congratulations to Mr. Hills!!

This year, Mr. Hills made Portledge history by officially becoming the longest-serving faculty member ever in the school. With 36 years of dedication to Portledge, Mr. Hills has not only witnessed the positive growth of the school but has also actively contributed to the development of countless students. His influence clearly extends beyond the physical classroom, as he has inspired generations of students and athletes to strive for excellence, embodying the Portledge pillars in every interaction. His loyalty and commitment to Portledge is truly exceptional and deserves recognition and accolade from our community.

For Mr. Hills, this achievement is not only a very special milestone in his career, but a significant accomplishment of the goal he set for himself at a young age. As a highschool student, several of the teachers, faculty members, and mentors he often looked up to were dedicated educators, who served his school for long periods of time. Admiring their hard work and diligence, when embarking on his teaching career in 1988, Mr. Hills made a promise to himself: to follow his mentors’ footsteps by displaying commitment through his own career.

Now that he has inscribed his name into Portledge history, it is evident that he has not only fulfilled, but surpassed the goal he had once set for himself, demonstrating true dedication to the Portledge community.

Throughout all of his years spent at Portledge, it is clear that the school has earned a very special place in his heart. During an interview, when asked about Portledge, Mr. Hills responded, “Over 36 years, I've traveled, seen and evaluated other schools. Yet, nowhere that I've seen, do the faculty and students become part of the same family.”

From being a beloved teacher in the classroom to an admirable coach, who coached over 2000 games for Portledge, Mr. Hills has been an outstanding member of the Portledge community. His love and passion for the school is one that is unquestionable and deserves the highest recognition and appreciation. As Mr. Hills continues his journey at Portledge, we look forward to many more years of his success as a teacher and coach. Once again, congratulations, Mr. Hills, and thank you so much for everything you have done for Portledge!
