Portledge Science Symposium
Hope Peterson

On Monday, March 10th, in Bahnik Hall, Portledge hosted its annual Science Symposium, a highlight of the school’s STEAM initiatives. Sponsored by Dr. Robert Muratore and Mrs. Carolyn Chiu, the evening featured keynote speaker Dr. Isabella B. Muratore, Class of 2012, alongside a series of impressive presentations from both students and faculty. Keynote speaker of the night, Dr. Isabella Muratore, focused on her findings from researching eusocial insects, specifically ants, and how they communicate with each other to create a thriving community. The night continued with lectures from Avery Joshua-Tor and Rowan Shenoy, who were both selected to present at the Long Island Science Congress. Faculty research was also incredible to learn about, as we heard from Mr. Jeffrey Suzda, Dr. Robert Fiore, and many more. Mr. Suzda even had his findings on Unlocking Musical Creativity with EEG Analysis published by NYSSMA! The Symposium was a phenomenal experience filled with science, research, and unforgettable moments of discovery and growth.
